Civilian Of the Year Award

Awarded to any female civilian member in a public safety agency in Alberta and has distinguished themselves by their exemplary conduct and achievements in more than one area of public safety and over a sustained period that has a significant impact on their agency and/or area of responsibility. This award is in recognition of the contribution civilians make to the success of any public safety.
Award Criteria
i. Female civilian member of a public safety agency in Alberta.
ii. This includes positions in law enforcement, emergency medical services, firefighting, search and rescue, or other related fields that serve to protect and support public safety in the community.
iii. Involvement in a significant project/investigation/initiative etc.
1. Describe with specific details how the nominee:
a. Was involved in a project, the scope of their participation, and the impact the project has had on their agency/community/area of responsibility.
b. Has played a key role in leading or contributing to a significant project or initiative that has had a meaningful and lasting impact on their agency, community, or designated area of responsibility.
c. Their involvement has gone beyond routine duties, demonstrating vision, dedication, and a strategic approach to achieving tangible outcomes that continue to benefit those they serve.
iv. Sustained contribution
1. Describe with specific details how the nominee:
a. Has consistently demonstrated a sustained commitment to the overall advancement and betterment of their agency, community, or area of responsibility. Through ongoing engagement, proactive problem-solving, and a dedication to continuous improvement, they have contributed to creating a more effective, responsive, and resilient environment.
b. Has enhanced operational outcomes, improved morale, or strengthened community relationships over time.
c. Work has resulted in sustained improvements, innovative practices, or long-term positive change that reflect their leadership and influence.
Eligibility Criteria
Civilian member of a public safety agency in Alberta that identifies as female.
SUBMISSION AND SELECTION PROCESS
Nomination Process:
Nominations must be submitted to AWIPS by before the deadline each year.
Complete and submit the Nomination Form from the AWIPS website.
Support material such as videos, CDs and promotional material will also be considered. Please make reference to them in the nomination form and arrangements will be made for submission.
Selection Process:
AWIPS Board will submit the nominations received to the Selection Committee
The Selection Committee consists of members of AWIPS
Once a winning submission is chosen by the Selection Committee, the winning nominee(s)’ chief of police or senior executive-in-charge will be contacted, and an invitation will be sent to the winning nominee(s) with details about the award ceremony.
Scoring Rubric:
Nominations will be scored on the rubric and a score out of a total of 20 marks will be given based upon 5 criteria.
