Acting Inspector Sueanne Ford is in her 30th year with the Calgary Police Service. She is currently assigned to the Security and Building Safety Section as an Acting Inspector. Sueanne’s previous work experience includes assignments in the Drug Unit, General Investigations, Office of the Chief, Patrol, Community and Youth Services Section, Professional Standards and a variety of other areas. Sueanne was a trained negotiator for over ten years. She is also trained in American Sign Language, with both the negotiation and signing skills being useful in dealing with several cases involving deaf offenders. Sueanne’s passion has been around intervention, education and prevention with kiddos; she has been involved in several projects that have positively impacted our youth. She has an extensive policing background and understands the need for organizations to recognize work-life balance and support in its members. Sueanne is an advocate for children with special needs and has dedicated her own time to assisting many police families who face personal struggles raising children with special needs. Sueanne brought the International Association of Women’s Police Conference to Calgary with another police woman in 2018. It was a very successful International conference that brought over 950 delegates from all over the world, approximately 45 countries. Sueanne is now currently the Region 12 coordinator with the IAWP for Western Canada. As a regional coordinator Sueanne’s passion is to provide professional development, mentoring, training, recognition and increasing numbers of women in policing and leadership roles. One of her many passions and values is to “change to improve” whether that is personally or professionally. Plus to always lead with fairness, equity and transparency. Sueanne’s proudest moment is being a mom, to her son Stone.
