Officer Of The Year Award

Police

Awarded to a female public safety officer in Alberta who has demonstrated exemplary service through direct and sustained involvement in significant events, investigations, or projects, resulting in a measurable and lasting impact on public safety, her agency, or area of responsibility.

Award Criteria

i. Female Sworn member of a public safety agency in Alberta.


ii. This includes positions in law enforcement, emergency medical services, firefighting, search and rescue, or other related fields that serve to protect and support public safety in the community.

i. Exceptional Leadership and Professionalism


1. Describe with specific examples how the nominee:


a. Consistently demonstrates outstanding leadership, integrity, and professionalism in all aspects of duty. Inspires colleagues, fosters collaboration, and enhances the effectiveness, culture, and reputation of her agency through her exemplary conduct.


ii. Critical Incident Response


1. Describe with specific examples how the nominee:


a. Has played a pivotal role in responding to emergencies, high-risk situations, critical incidents, or investigations. How her timely actions, sound judgment, and professional expertise have directly contributed to saving lives, minimizing harm, or protecting the public.


iii. Innovation and Operational Excellence


1. Describe with specific examples how the nominee:


a. Has led or contributed to projects, investigations, or initiatives that significantly improve agency operations, service delivery, or public safety practices. How her efforts demonstrate creativity, initiative, and a commitment to advancing the effectiveness of her team and agency.


iv. Community Engagement and Impact


1. Describe with specific examples how the nominee:


a. Actively engages with the community to foster trust, promote public safety, and support programs or initiatives that create long-term positive outcomes. How her work strengthens relationships between the agency and the public, enhancing overall community safety and confidence.


v. Sustained and Outstanding Contribution


1. Describe with specific examples how the nominee:


a. Has demonstrated a consistent record of exceptional service over an extended period.

How her sustained dedication, initiative, and leadership have left a lasting positive impact on colleagues, agency operations, and the safety and well-being of the community.

Eligibility Criteria

Sworn member of a public safety agency in Alberta that identifies as female.

SUBMISSION AND SELECTION PROCESS


Nomination Process:
  • Nominations must be submitted to AWIPS by before the deadline each year.

  • Complete and submit the Nomination Form from the AWIPS website.

  • Support material such as videos, CDs and promotional material will also be considered. Please make reference to them in the nomination form and arrangements will be made for submission.

Selection Process:
  • AWIPS Board will submit the nominations received to the Selection Committee

  • The Selection Committee consists of members of AWIPS

  • Once a winning submission is chosen by the Selection Committee, the winning nominee(s)’ chief of police or senior executive-in-charge will be contacted, and an invitation will be sent to the winning nominee(s) with details about the award ceremony.

Scoring Rubric:
  • Nominations will be scored on the rubric and a score out of a total of 20 marks will be given based upon 5 criteria.
